Angry Orchard launches hard cider made with N.Y. apples

WALDEN, N.Y. — Angry Orchard, a popular brand of hard cider, is launching a new product made exclusively with apple varieties from New York State.

"We're extremely proud of Walden Hollow as it's our first cider made with apples from our own backyard," said Ryan Burk, Angry Orchard's head cider maker. "The mild tannins and dryness of the cider capture the diversity, complexity and depth of character from the blend of New York State apples. It's cider like Walden Hollow that inspires us to continue to drive innovation and reimagine what American cider can be."

Walden Hollow is fermented over many months, resulting in full flavor and intense apple aroma due to the high acidity and mild tannins from New York State heirloom apples. These heirloom varieties include Golden Russet, Newtown Pippin and Northern Spy, all of which have deep ties to the Empire State, including their use in cider dating back hundreds of years. Walden Hollow will be released annually in the spring, and made using a blend of New York apple varieties selected by Angry Orchard's cider makers based on the previous year's harvest. 

Walden Hollow (8% ABV) is the fourth style to join the Angry Orchard Cider House Collection of small batch craft ciders, and is available nationwide now. This style is available in 750 mL bottles for a suggested retail price of $14.99 – $17.99 (price varies per market).

DiGiorno unveils new Artisan Style Melts

SOLON, Ohio — A leading oven-ready pizza brand is launching new products that can be enjoyed as a snack or a meal.

DiGiorno is launching Artisan Style Melts, which are smaller-serving pizzas, and new pizzeria! thin pizza flavors.

DiGiorno Artisan Style Melts are made with focaccia bread and seasonings like rosemary, garlic and onion. Each crust is drizzled with olive oil and topped with carefully selected, high-quality ingredients including a blend of fine cheeses, sauce from vine-ripened tomatoes, premium meats and vegetables and no artificial flavors. Artisan Style Melts can be prepared in the microwave in just minutes for soft, pillowy bread or oven-baked for a crispier texture. They come in four varieties:

  • Spicy Sausage Pomodoro: Rosemary focaccia bread with arrabbiata sauce, Italian sausage, fire-roasted bell peppers, and reduced-fat mozzarella, Romano, Parmigiano and Asiago cheeses.
  • Quattro Formaggi: Rosemary focaccia bread topped with creamy Alfredo sauce, reduced-fat mozzarella, and smoked gouda, fontina, Parmesan, Asiago and Romano cheeses.
  • Pepperoni Speciale: Garlic and onion focaccia bread topped with pepperoni, marinara sauce and three types of mozzarella cheese.
  • Chicken Bruschetta: Focaccia bread topped with white meat chicken, roasted garlic, Roma tomatoes and a premium blend of cheeses and basil.

DiGiorno Artisan Style Melts are available at grocery stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.99. Each box includes two servings.

DiGiorno is also introducing two more flavors to its pizzeria! thin line:

  • Spicy Sausage Italiano & Provolone: Topped with spicy Italian sausage slices, reduced-fat provolone, diced tomatoes with mozzarella and our signature pizzeria! sauce.
  • Chicken Parmigiana: Topped with all-white-meat chicken, diced tomatoes, toasted breadcrumbs and our signature pizzeria! sauce.

Bitsy’s Brainfood adds crackers to its healthy snacks lineup

NEW YORK — A company run by moms who are aiming to redefine "healthy" packaged organic food for kids is launching a new line of crackers.

Bitsy's Brainfood has announced the addition of Smart Crackers to its lineup of healthy and educational snacks. 

Made with organic vegetables, Smart Crackers come in three flavors: Cheddar Chia Veggie, Sweet Potato Cinna-Graham and Maple Carrot Crisp. Bitsy's Brainfood Smart Crackers are currently available exclusively at Target as part of its "Made to Matter" program, which features purpose-driven brands to make better-for-you product innovation accessible for all.

Smart Crackers offer Vitamins A, B6, B12, D and folic acid, as well as calcium and iron. Each of the flavors comes in puzzle shapes called tangrams that kids can use to make hundreds of designs. As with all Bitsy's Brainfood products, healthy ingredients feature prominently in Smart Cracker flavor names so the "good stuff" isn't hidden from the kids who enjoy them.

Bitsy's Brainfood products are Non-GMO and Certified USDA Organic. In addition, they are made in a peanut-free and tree nut-free facility in the USA, making them an allergy-friendly, shareable snack for school time, lunchtime, playtime or anytime at all.
